1 C. Brown Sugar
1 C. White Sugar
1/2 C. Shortening
2 Eggs (beaten)
1/2 C. Sour Milk (can make by adding 2 T.
vinegar to milk)
2 C. Flour
2 T. Soda
1/2 C. Cocoa
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Boiling Water
English Walnuts or Pecans (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream brown Sugar, white sugar and shortening thoroughly. Add beaten eggs. Sift together flour, soda, cocoa and salt. Add sifted ingredients and sour milk alternately to creamed mixture. Beat well after each addition. Fold in boiling water. Add vanilla. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 pan or 3 8 or 9 inch layer pans. Pour in batter and bake at 350º for 30 to 35 minutes. Cool. Frost cake and garnish each square with a walnut or pecan.
