Festive Italian Easter Bread 🌸🥚
Ingredients:

¾ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
3 large eggs (plus 1 for egg wash)
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp salt
Zest of 1 lemon or orange (optional)
For Decoration:
4–6 dyed raw eggs (they will cook while baking)
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
Activate yeast (if using active dry yeast): dissolve in warm milk with a pinch of sugar; let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Make dough: combine flour, sugar, salt, yeast, zest, eggs, vanilla, and milk. Knead 8–10 minutes until soft and elastic.
Let rise: place in greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
Shape: divide dough into 2 ropes, twist together, form a ring, pinch ends, and tuck dyed eggs between twists.
Final proof: place on parchment-lined sheet, cover, and let rise 30–45 minutes.
Bake: preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush dough (not eggs) with beaten egg, add sprinkles if desired, and bake 25–30 minutes until golden.
Cool & serve: let cool slightly. Serve with butter or enjoy as-is!
Rena’s Tip: Gently tucking the eggs between twists keeps them secure while baking and makes each slice a beautiful surprise.
