3 Tbsp Butter
2C apples, cherries, or berries
3 T cornstarch
1 ½ C sugar, divided
1 C flour, sifted
1 t baking powder
½ t salt
1 C milk
¼ C shortening
1 t vanilla
1 large egg

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°
In medium saucepan, melt butter, add fruit, cornstarch and ¾C sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
Pour into 1/2 qt. Shallow baking dish.

Topping:
Sift flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, and salt into mixing bowl. Add milk, shortening, vanilla, and egg. Beat at medium speed 2 to 3 minutes. Spoon over fruit.

Bake about 40 minutes.
