Casey Baxter is one of the most revered all around athletes in Calhoun High School’s history. A four-sport high school athlete, Baxter’s awards were numerous. In basketball, he was named 2001 and 2002 AJC First Team All-State as well as the AJC and GSWA AA state Player of the Year in 2002. He was the 2001 Chattanooga Times Free Press Area Player of the Year, the 2002 Tri-State Area Player of the Year and the 2002 AJC Regional 7-AA Player of the Year. Baxter is the all time leading scorer in Calhoun basketball and was the 2002 NWGA Tipoff Club Player of the Year

A three year letterman in baseball, Baxter was the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ for the 2000 state champion Calhoun Yellow Jackets. As a high school football player, he earned the Permanent Team Captain Award in football, was a 2001 1st Team All-State selection and was a Chattanooga Times Free Press All-Area Wide Receiver. Baxter was a key player for Calhoun’s success as Region Champs and Elite 8 appearance. He was a five-event participant and letterman on the track team.

He was a 2002 finalist for the Chattanooga Times Free Press ‘Scrappy Moore Athlete of the Year’, and Calhoun High’s Wendy’s High School Heisman Representative.

Casey earned a scholarship to play football at Furman University. After red-shirting his freshman year, he transferred to Shorter College where he was awarded a scholarship to play basketball, where he was a three year starter. He was named the Southern states Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, was a two time All-Conference Team selection and was the 2005-2006 Northwest Georgia Tipoff Club Team Player of the Year.

Coach Baxter was head coach of Calhoun High School’s basketball team from 2007-2010, and led the team to Sub-Region champions for two years. He was named Northwest Georgia Tip Off Club Coach of the Month. He has served in assistant coaching roles at Ashworth Middle School and Sonoraville Middle School as well. Baxter now teaches Physical Education at Sonoraville Elementary School.

Casey and his wife, Connie, have four kids; Caroline, Charlie, Cal and Claire. Today he enjoys coaching his kids in multiple sports. His parents are Brian and Vicki Baxter, and he has three brothers; Andy, Eric and Cory.
