"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Each Saturday, my father would bring home "Aiken Pool Room Hot dogs" for lunch. They were the BEST!

For an authentic APRHD you need to top your dog (in this order) with ketchup, mustard, slaw, finely diced onions, and the chili...Delicious!

When I (Jeanna Hanna) was a little girl, probably 9 years old, I was riding my bike to a friends house one summer day and I was hungry for a hot dog. Not realizing it was a "Pool Room/Bar" or what that even meant, I decided to stop in and grab a hot dog for lunch with my $1.00 bill that mother left me for that day. I walked right in the front door, climbed up onto the bar stool and ordered my hot dog and coke...No one questioned my presence and I was served with a smile!

Later that evening, I told mother and daddy about my day and that I could now get my own pool room hot dogs!! My daddy said, they served you a hot dog in that place? I said Yes!! He just laughed and shook his head. Not wanting to embarrass me he said, from now on, let's just have hot dogs on Saturday so that I can get them for you!

When I was older and understood more about where I had gone, we all laughed about it. Like I said earlier, I received "service with a smile", no questions asked..Win/Win in my opinion!!
