Ingredients:
Ingredients:
¾ cup shortening, white kind
1 cup sugar
1 egg
¼ cup molasses
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ginger
½ tsp cloves

Directions:
Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses and mix well. In another bowl mix dry ingredients together. Then add to molasses mixture. Can add a bit more flour to make dough easier to handle if needed. Roll dough into balls and roll in sugar that is in a separate bowl to coat each ball. Bake at 375 degrees for no longer than 9 minutes. Cook over that time the cookies will be hard. I have found that if I double this recipe the cookies turn out better for some reason.
