1/2 cup warm water
2 tsp sugar
2 Tbsp active dry yeast (2 pkg)

Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.

3 1/2 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar/honey
1/2 cup vegetable oil /shortening
4 tsp salt
9 1/2 - 10 1/2 cup flour

Measure warm water into a large bowl. Add water, oil and salt. Add yeast mixture and mix well. Add sufficient flour to make a soft, workable dough. Sprinkle with flour. Knead dough until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes).

Form dough into ball. Grease sides of bowl. Turn dough once to grease top. Cover and let rise 50 min to 1 hour or until doubled. Punch down and shape into 4 round balls. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes. Form into loaves.

Place into greased loaf pans. Cover and let rise 50-60 minutes. Bake at 350ºF for 30 minutes or until done to your liking. Remove from pans and cool on wire rack. Makes 4 loaves.

Variation: Use half whole wheat flour for whole wheat bread.
