1 tsp baking soda stirred into 1 cup light molasses, set aside til pale and frothy
Mix together:
1cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
4¾ - 5 cups flour
2 tsp ground ginger
½ tsp salt
Add Molasses mixture

Oven 375º

Royal Icing
¼ cup meringue powder
½ cup water
4½ cups icing sugar

Beat meringue powder and water til frothy, 2 minutes. Add sugar and beat til stiff.
