Notes: Growing up with a British mother I never knew half of the things that she did might seem odd to others. Jam and Cheese sandwiches were among those. Sounds weird, but tastes less weird especially if you grew up thinking it was normal.
Looking at the origin of them it seems they probably began in Scotland. Sometimes called pieces and jam or, jeely pieces. It was an affordable sandwich to those in the lower working class. Well, that would certainly have fit my mother's family (working class and Scots-Irish).
Mom would prepare and pack sandwiches in a brown paper sack for a day at the park or the zoo. She would have brought sandwiches to the circus too but there was no more room in her purse after the soft drinks and home-made caramel apples she snuck in.
