1-1/2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1 cup molasses
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
4 tsp baking soda
2 tbsp vinegar
4 cups flour (approx.)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, and egg. Add molasses, sour milk, salt, cinnamon, and ginger and beat well. Dissolve baking soda in the vinegar, then add to mixture. Add enough flour to make a dough stiff enough to roll out 1/4 inch thick. Cut and bake at 350º for 12 minutes.

Alice was friend from nursing school and we were later roommates living in Albany, New York. Her mom made these great soft molasses cookies. I think sometimes they're called "joe froggers".
