1 ½ c. shortening
2 c white sugar
2 eggs
½ c. molasses
4 ½ c. flour
4 tsp. ground ginger
2 tsp. baking soda
1 ½ tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
¼ tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, and molasses together in large bowl. Sift flour, ginger and baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt together. Stir into creamed mixture in three stages. Use hands to knead well. Form into balls. Roll in sugar and place on a greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart. Bake in preheated 350 F oven for 12 t0 14 minutes. These cookies spread as they cook. Cool on rack.
