1/2 cup butter
1/2 onion chopped
1 (16oz) bag of chopped broccoli
4 (14.5oz) cans of chicken broth
1 lb American cheese
2 cups milk
1 T garlic powder
2/3 cup cornstarch

Directions:
Directions:
In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Cook onion in butter until softened. Stir in broccoli and cover with 3 cans of chicken broth. Simmer until broccoli is tender, about 10-15 minutes.
Reduce heat, stir in cheese pieces until melted. Mix in milk and garlic powder.
In a small bowl, stir cornstarch with 1/4 can of chicken broth until dissolved. Stir into soup; cook, stirring frequently, until thick. (The soup will thicken almost instantly when you add the cornstarch).
