2 egg whites
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 t. cream of tartar
1 T. Karo syrup
1/3 c. water
1 t. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine all except vanilla in top of double boiler. Beat on high one minute. Place top part of double boiler over bottom part with boiling water (boiling water should not touch bottom of top part). Beat on high seven minutes while cooking. Remove top of double boiler. Add vanilla; beat 2 more minutes. Frosts two 8 or 9 inch layers or 9x13 inch cake.

I have been using this recipe for years on my pound cake, sponge cake or cupcakes. The recipe was in one of Betty Crocker's first cookbooks. This is the frosting I used on Janet's, Judy's and Karen's wedding cakes. Until I moved to PA, I also made pound cakes frosted with this recipe for Kim's children's birthday parties.
