2 (15-oz.) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
3 c. water
3 T. sugar
2 t. salt
2 bay leaves
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
6 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
2 t. dried oregano, crushed
1 t. ground cumin

Directions:
Directions:
In a saucepan, combine beans, water, sugar, salt and bay leaves. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and cook 5 minutes. Add green pepper, onion, garlic, oregano and cumin. Cook, covered, 20 minutes. Uncover; cook 10 minutes more or until liquid has thickened.
