Ingredients:  
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1 can applesauce
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• ½ tsp nutmeg
• ½ cup butter
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 2 cups flour
• 1 cup walnuts (optional)
• Frosting:
• ¼ cup shortening
• Heaping Tbsp butter
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 2-3 cups powered sugar
• Gallop of milk if too thick

Directions:
Directions:
1. Mix 1 tsp baking soda into 1 tsp applesauce.
2. Cream together: sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter.
3. Add egg and applesauce
4. Add baking powder, flour, and walnuts
5. Bake for 40 minutes.
6. Frosting: Combine all ingredients in a mixer. Add vanilla to taste.
7. Frost cake when cool.
