1 pint white corn syrup
2 pints white sugar
3 cups black walnuts
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Butter 2 cookie sheets (15 X 12 inches), and keep warm, Mix corn syrup and white sugar in 3 qt. saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, to 240º on candy thermometer or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from water. Stir in walnuts, salt, and vanilla.. Cook, stirring constantly, to 300 degrees or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water separates into hard, brittle threads. (Watch carefully so mixture does not burn.) Immediately remove from heat.

Pour half of the candy mixture into each cookie sheet and quickly spead about 1/4 inch thick, cool.. Break into pieces.
