1 cup Sugar
¾ cup Vegetable shortening
¼ cup Light molasses
1 large Egg
2 cups Flour
2 ½ tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Cinnamon
½ tsp. Ground ginger
½ tsp. Ground cloves
¼ tsp. Salt
Granulated sugar

Directions:

Heat oven to 350º.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, the shortening, molasses and egg. Beat at medium speed until well blended. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt. Mix at low speed until soft dough forms.

Shape dough into 1" balls. Roll balls in granulated sugar. Place balls 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 8 to 12 minutes, or until set. Cool completely before storing.
