3 cups Flour
1 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 Egg
1 cup Sugar
1 1/3 cup Shortening
1 tsp. Almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Mix shortening & sugar together well.
Beat in egg & almond extract. Combine flour, salt & baking soda - mix well.
Add to the shortening mixture & mix well.
Roll dough into small balls & place on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
With your thumb, carefully press down on the top of each ball.
Dip the end of a chopstick in red food coloring & mark the center of each cookie if desired or you could put a whole piece almond on top.
Bake for 20 min.
