½ cup popcorn kernels
½ cup corn syrup
½ lb butter
2 cups brown sugar
¼ tsp cream of tartar

Directions:

Pop the popcorn. Mix corn syrup, butter, brown sugar and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Boil hard for 2-3 minutes. Pour over popped popcorn. Stir well to coat. Spread on baking sheet and bake for about an hour at 250º, stirring every 10 minutes.

This was a Sunday night movie ritual when we were growing up. Mom had an old fashioned stove top popcorn popper that looked like a sauce pan with a wire coming down from the lid. You had to continually turn the lid to keep the popcorn from burning.

We didn't bother baking the popcorn, just served it freshly coated in caramel!
