1/2 c Crisco
2 eggs
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c flour
2 T cocoa powder
1 1/2 c sugar
2 oz. red food coloring
1 t. salt
1 c buttermilk
1 t. baking soda mixed with 1 T vinegar
Directions:
Directions:
Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beat well. Stir flour, salt and cocoa together. Add alternately with buttermilk. Beat after each addition. Stir in baking soda and vinegar mixture.
Bake at 350º for 30 minutes in 2 - 9" greased and floured pans.
 

Frosting
Ingredients:

1 c milk
1 1/4 c sugar
1/4 c flour
3/4 c shortening
1 t. vanilla
Directions:
Directions:
Combine milk and flour, cook until thick. Stir constantly. Set aside to cool. Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and cooked sauce. Beat until stiff.
