3-1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening

1 package yeast
1/4 cup warm water

3/4 cup sour cream
2 eggs well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sugar ( used for rolling and sprinkling on dough)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º

Sift flour and salt. Cut in shortening. Stir in the combined eggs, sour cream, dissolved yeast and vanilla

Cover with a damp cloth and refrigerate for 2 hours.
Roll out 1/2 the dough to 8x16 on sugared board. Fold ends to center, sprinkle with sugar and repeat rolling 3-4 times. Cut into 1"x4" strips. Twist ends in appropriate directions and form horseshoe shape. Press ends down when placing on cookie sheet.

Bake for 15 minutes. Do not let them get too brown!

This delicious cookie recipe is my mother in laws. She makes it every Christmas and she only makes a small amount. Of which, we all fight over! This is such a great memory for us! My daughter, Jessica, will be carrying on the tradition.
