1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 egg yolks
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 or more pints raspberries, strawberries, sliced peaches or combinations of berries and other fruit such as oranges or kiwis
1/3 pound dried apricots, chopped
1/2 white chocolate, chopped
2/3 cup unsalted pistachios or macadamia nuts, chopped

In a saucepan, heat whipping cream just until it comes to a boil. Beat egg yolks and sugar in a bowl. Gradually whisk hot cream into sugar-egg mixture. Return to saucepan and cook over low heat until slightly thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in vanilla. Cool and chill, covered, in a bowl or jar.

Layer fruit in serving container. Sprinkle with apricots, white chocolate and nuts. Serve with cream custard sauce on the side or toss with custard just before serving.

Back in the early 1980's when Dad and I lived in Cali before we had kids, we used to attend Hollywood Bowl concerts fairly frequently. Somehow or other, we managed to get to sit in the "box seats" on occasion - I think that the Allens must have had season tickets. It was such a luxury - getting to arrive early and sit at a small table near the stage, enjoying a lovely meal. Judy and I both loved to cook and experiment with new recipes, so we would divvy up the courses and have a literal feast. One time, she made this incredibly yummy dessert so of course, I asked for the recipe!
