7 pounds cucumbers cut crosswise in slices ( Mama pealed hers)
Lime
2 gallons water
½ can picking spices (tied in a cloth)

Syrup:
2 quarts vinegar
5 pounds sugar (10 cups)
1 tablespoon salt

Note: For sweeter pickles, add more sugar and use 1½ quart vinegar and add ½ quart water to make the 2 quarts.

Directions:

Mix lime in water in a very large container. Add sliced cucumbers and soak for 24 hours.
Rinse in 3 different cool water baths, and then soak 3 hours in ice and water.
Drain.
Make syrup: sugar and vinegar and salt. Pour syrup over cucumbers and soak overnight.
Add pickling spices tied in cloth and cook for 35 minutes or until tender. Remove bag of spices.
Put in pint jars, use hot water bath and seal.
