"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Directions:
Dissolve the soda in the water. (I sometimes use maraschino cherry juice.) Cream the butter; beat in sugar. Add beaten eggs, the orange juice and pulp and the soda and water mixture. Toss the fruit and flour, mixed with the salt. Add the fruit to the first mixture. Bake in a slow oven (275º) until done. Prepare a glaze. Bring 1/4 cup water and 1/2 cup light corn syrup just to a rolling boil. Remove from heat and cook to lukewarm. Baste hot cakes.

Okla and Thelma have made these cakes for gifts for friends and relatives at Christmas.
