1 stick (1/2 cup) margarine
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
5 eggs, separated
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup black walnuts, coarsely chopped (I don't chop mine)

Directions:

Cream margarine and shortening until fluffy, with mixer. Add sugar, then egg yolks. Cream until fluffy. Mix soda and vanilla with buttermilk, then add half to creamed mixture. Beat in with mixer. Add half of the flour, then remaining liquid. Add remaining flour. Fold in nuts. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold them in. Pour into three 8 or 9 inch round cake pans which have been greased and floured. (I use two (10 inch) pans.) Bake at 350º for 25 to 30 minutes.

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
1/2 stick butter (or margarine)
1 (1 lb.) box powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Beat together and frost cake. This cake sells well. Delicious!!
