Crust

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sifted flour
1 Tbsp. water

Directions:

Cut butter for crust into flour, as for pie crust; add water. Divide into 2 parts; pat each part into long strip on cookie sheet.
 

Filling

1 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sifted flour
3 eggs
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Directions:
Directions:
Place water and butter for filling into saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; add flour. Beat until smooth, add 3 eggs, one at a time. Beat well after each addition. Add almond extract; mix well. Divide in half, place on pastry strips. Spread evenly. Bake for 45 minutes at 375º; cool.
 

Frosting

1 lb. powdered sugar
Dash of salt
1/4 cup milk (or half & half)
1 tsp. almond flavoring
1/3 cup soft butter (or margarine)

Beat until smooth. Should be of easy spreading consistency. May add more milk, if necessary. Frost cooled pastry and cut into squares. May add 1 small package slivered almonds to the frosting and/or sprinkle toasted sliced almonds on top of frosting.
