For Cake:
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 T baking cocoa
1/2 tsp salt
small bottle of red food coloring
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda
1 T white vinegar

For Frosting:
1 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
dash salt
1 stick margarine or butter
1 c. powdered sugar

Cake:
Cream together (with an electric mixer) shortening and sugar, then add in eggs. Sift flour, cocoa powder and salt together, add to shortening mixture alternating with milk. Add 1 tsp vanilla and a small bottle of red food coloring blending into cake mixture. Fold in 1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 T vinegar. Pour into greased & floured 9"x12" long pan. Bake at 350º for 30-35 minutes.

Frosting:
Cook milk, flour and salt over low temp, stirring constantly until mixture resembles pudding in consistency; set aside to cool. Cream together shortening, margarine and 1 c. powdered sugar; add 1 tsp vanilla, then beat this mixture into the pudding mixture until smooth. Frost the cooled cake.
