Notes: This is a close approximation of the recipe used at the Northwestern Steakhouse in Mason City, IA. The Northwestern used to be a neighborhood grocery store until it was bought by a Greek family and turned into a restaurant more than 70 years ago. One of Sharon's older brothers used to deliver papers to the store when it was still a grocery. Garry used to go eat there after it became a restaurant, before he met Sharon.
He famously once ate there twice in one day. He and a friend had been trap shooting and went to the early seating, where they each ate a full meal (which is VERY filling) and then they went to a gun store in town. A little while later, Garry said that he could go for another steak and went back with another friend and ate ANOTHER FULL MEAL! If you ever get a chance to get a meal at the Northwestern, you'll realize what an accomplishment this is.
It's a tradition for almost all native Mason Citizens to have a meal there whenever they return home. We always make a point to get a steak there every time we visit Sarah's family.
The number of servings is completely up to you. Just pick your favorite cut of steak and put them in the pan. The butter/spice mixture will combine with the juices from the steak to make a delicious sauce for you to drizzle over your steak and any sides you choose. We usually just make some rice, but it's great on baked potatoes and spaghetti, too!
