Ingredients: 1/2 lb. sesame seeds, toasted 1 cup butter, softened 2/3 cup sugar plus 1 tsp. 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 eggs, separated 2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking powder

Directions:Toast the sesame seeds by placing them on a cookie sheet and into a preheated 350º oven for a few minutes. Remove from oven when they just begin to brown; set aside. Cream the butter. Add 2/3 cup sugar; mix well. Add vanilla and egg yolks; stir well. Add the flour and baking powder; mix well. Break off pieces of dough and shape into thumb-length size. Beat egg whites with the remaining 1 teaspoon of sugar until frothy. Pour sesame seeds onto a large piece of wax paper. Dip cookies into the egg whites and then roll them in the sesame seeds. Place on parchment-lined cookie sheets and bake in a preheated 350º oven for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. |

Notes: Mom found this recipe in the local paper many years ago. It was unusual because you rolled the cookie dough in an egg white mixture before the sesame seeds. Our dad loved these cookies, so mom would make them all year round!
