Ingredients: 6 cups flour (to start with) Add flour as needed approx 3 extra cups until dough forms a ball and cleans side of bowl 2 large egg yolks beaten well 2 tablespoons salt 1 package dry yeast ¼ teaspoons sugar melted in yeast ½ quart of warm water ½ cup of cooking oil

Directions:Mix yeast with 1/4 cup warm water, stir until yeast dissolves. Add sugar and salt and the remaining - Set aside for now.
In Mix Master: Mix flour, salt. Make a well in the middle. Beat egg yolk and pour in to the well. Add oil, and the yeast mixture. Using the dough hooks mix until dough forms a ball and cleans the side of the bowl.
Let rise to double in size.
In a fryer or a large pot add Crisco shortening Take about a 1/2 dollar size of dough in your hand and using your hands roll dough to form an approx 3-4 inch long shape. Put in hot oil and cook until golden brown. Continue doing this until all the dough has been used.
Optional: You can also add anchovies to some. For this take the dough and flatten a little - add the anchovy(s) and form into a ball. Continue until all the anchovies are used. Cook these last, so not to get the anchovy taste on the others. |
