Ingredients:
Ingredients:
6 cups flour (to start with)
Add flour as needed approx 3 extra cups until dough forms a ball and cleans side of bowl
2 large egg yolks beaten well
2 tablespoons salt
1 package dry yeast
¼ teaspoons sugar melted in yeast
½ quart of warm water
½ cup of cooking oil

Directions:
Directions:
Mix yeast with 1/4 cup warm water, stir until yeast dissolves. Add sugar and salt and the remaining - Set aside for now.

In Mix Master:
Mix flour, salt. Make a well in the middle. Beat egg yolk and pour in to the well. Add oil, and the yeast mixture. Using the dough hooks mix until dough forms a ball and cleans the side of the bowl.

Let rise to double in size.

In a fryer or a large pot add Crisco shortening
Take about a 1/2 dollar size of dough in your hand and using your hands roll dough to form an approx 3-4 inch long shape.
Put in hot oil and cook until golden brown. Continue doing this until all the dough has been used.

Optional: You can also add anchovies to some. For this take the dough and flatten a little - add the anchovy(s) and form into a ball. Continue until all the anchovies are used.
Cook these last, so not to get the anchovy taste on the others.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This has been a family tradition for Christmas Eve dinners, in place of bread and butter. Grandma Monaco shared this with me - she was given this recipe by your Great Grandma Monaco
