cup soft shortening
1/2 tsp red food coloring
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar
1 1/2 tsp almond flavoring
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and flavorings together. Cream. Mix flour and salt together and stir in. Divide dough in half. Blend red food coloring into half the dough. Roll about 1 tablespoon of each color dough into 4 inch strips. Place one strip of each color side by side. Press together slightly and roll into candy cane shape. Put onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake one minute at 375º or until very light brown. Remove while warm and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candy and sugar.
