Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 c lukewarm milk
1 pkg dry yeast
2 tsp sugar

2 c flour
1 c lukewarm milk
1/3 c butter
1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix 1st 3 ingredients and let stand until foamy.

Add flour, more lukewarm milk to foamy yeast mixture. Melt butter and blend in sugar. Add this and eggs and salt to yeast/flour mixture. Work in more flour just enough to make stiff dough. Cover and let rise to double its size.

Knead doubled dough and roll onto floured board to 1/2 in thickness. Cut in 2" strips and cut 2" strips in half (so basically you want 1-1" inch pieces). Lay on cloth to rise again.

Drop pieces into hot vegetable oil and fry to golden brown. Remove and immediately shake in powdered sugar to cover.

Personal Notes:
This recipe is probably 100 years old or more. My mother, her mother, her mother's mother and beyond have been making these to celebrate Mardis Gras for years!
