1 cup boiling water
1/4 shorting
1/2 cup sugar
1 package active dry or compressed yeast
1/4 Luke warm water
6 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup evaporated milk
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Oil for frying

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over shorting and sugar. Stir in yeast in Luke warm water until dissolved. Sift dry ingredients together.

Mix milk, well beaten eggs, vanilla extract, yeast and half the flour into shorting mixture. Beat on high. Beat in remaining flour, cover and set in warm place until double in bulk.

Dump dough into a heavily floured board, kneed several minutes until dough doesn't stick. Roll 1/2 inch thick, cut with donut cutter. Let rise until double.

Fry several at a time in deep oil. Drain on paper towel, toss in sugar or glaze.
