2 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. firm shortening

1 egg (beaten)
< 3/4 c. milk

1 c. raisins or shredded cheese, etc. (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to to 400ºF
2. Combine first four (4) dry ingredients
3. Cut shortening into dry ingredient mixture
4. Combine egg and enough milk to make 3/4 c.
5. Pour wet mixture into dry mixture
6. Mix with a fork, add optional ingredients if desired, then knead together
7. Roll out onto floured surface
8. Cut into circles (a drinking glass works well)
9. Bake for 10-12min (thicker biscuits require longer) until golden brown

Mom (Lynn) makes these almost every time we're home. Our favourite was always the plain ones. They're delicious with pin cherry jelly.
