1 pkg. cake mix (either pecan, caramel or spice)
4 eggs
1/2 cup butter - softened
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/2 cups corn syrup (dark or clear)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup pecans, chopped (I use 1 1/2 cups)

Grease bottom and sides of a 9x13-inch baking pan. Reserve 1/3 cup of the cake mix for the filling. In a large mixing bowl combine the cake mix, butter and 1 egg. Mix until crumbly (it will be a moist crumble). Spread the mixture in the greased pan and lightly press down. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes until light brown color. While the crust is baking, prepare the filling by combining the brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, reserved cake mix and 3 eggs and beat at medium speed for 1 - 2 minutes. After the crust has baked, pour the filling over the partially baked crust and sprinkle with the pecans. Return the pan to the oven and bake for and additional 30 - 35 minutes, until the filling is set. Cool and cut into bars.
