6 bamboo leaves
1 lbs Chinese dark sugar
1/2 box brown sugar
2-1/2 c hot water
1 lb mochi flour (mochiko)
1/2 c oil
1 red prune
2 t sesame seeds
Optional: ½ to 1 c coconut flakes

Directions:
Directions:
Line a 7-1/2" x 3” round pan with leaves.
Generously oil leaves and sides of pan.
In medium pot, dissolve sugars in hot water. Cool once melted.
Pour sugar in bowl. Gradually add mochiko flour, stirring to a thin batter. Add oil.
Pour into prepared pan.
Steam for approximately 3 hours.
Press red prune and sprinkle sesame seeds into center while still warm.

*For coconut flavored gau, add coconut to batter.
