1/2 c- shortening
1 c- brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c- molasses
1/2 tsp.- salt
1/2 tsp.- cinnamon
1/2 tsp. -nutmeg
1/2 tsp.- ginger
1 tsp.- baking powder
2 c- flour
2/3 c- boiling water
1 tsp. -baking soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar
Add molasses, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Pour the boiling water over 1 level tsp. of baking soda.
add to the first mixture
Add the flour that has been sifted with the baking powder and ginger, then the well beaten egg.
Beat well.
Line tin with heavy paper
Bake in a 325º to 350º oven for 40 min.
