8 1/2 sifted flour
1 Tbsp. salt
2 Tbsp. baking soda
8 C quick cooking rolled oats
2 1/2 C sugar
1 Tbsp. ground ginger
2 C. melted shortening
2 C. light molasses
4 eggs beaten
1/4 C hot water
3 C. seedless raisins
2 C ground black walnuts or English walnuts
sugar for tops

This is a BIG recipe for BIG cookies

reserve 1/2 C. flour. Sift together flour, salt & baking soda. in a very large bowl mix oats, sugar and ginger. Stir in shortening, molasses, eggs, hot water, sifted dry ingredients, raisins and nuts. Work dough with hands till well mixed. Add the 1/2 cup flour as needed to make dough workable.

Roll dough to 1/4" thickness cut with 3 1/2" round cutter. Place 2 to 3" apart on light greased cookie sheet. Brush with water and sprinkle with sugar. Bake in 375ºF oven for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and place on a rack to cool
