1 ½ cups flour
¼ cup shortening (Crisco)
2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg, beaten
1 cup sugar
½ cup milk
½ tsp. salt

Streusel Topping:
½ cup brown sugar
4 Tbs. melted butter
2 Tbs. flour
½ cup chopped nuts
2 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Grease 8” square pan on the bottom but not on sides. Sift and measure flour. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Add shortening. Add beaten egg and milk. Mix till well blended. Spread into greased baking pan. Mix brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, melted butter and chopped nuts. Sprinkle over cake. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cut in squares and serve hot.

This was my 1st recipe and it won a Blue Ribbon at the 4-H Girls annual bake off in the middle 1970’s.
