1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour
2 tbsp. cocoa
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
FROSTING:
1 stick melted butter
2/3 c. cocoa
3 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Cake: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 inch square Pyrex dish or pan. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and egg. Mix and sift flour, unsweetened cocoa, baking soda and spices alternately with the buttermilk to the cream mixture. Stir until smooth. Pour in dish and bake 30-35 minutes or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
Frosting: Mix butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add, alternately, sifted powdered sugar and milk to the cocoa mixture. Beat well until it has a spreadable consistency. Add vanilla. Spread frosting on warm cake, and be sure to lick the spoon!
