1 4 1/2 oz. bottle red food coloring
3 Tbsp cocoa
1/2 c Crisco
1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1 c buttermilk
2 1/4 c cake flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp vinegar
1 tsp soda

Icing
1 stick butter
8 Tbsp Crisco
1 c powdered sugar
3 Tbsp flour
2/3 c milk (at room temp)

Cake
Mix cocoa and red coloring and set aside.
Cream Crisco and sugar, then add eggs and colored paste. Beat well.
Add buttermilk, flour, salt and then vanilla.
Mix well and remove mixer.
Stir in by hand the vinegar and soda separately.
Pour in 3 well greased and floured 8 inch pans.
Bake at 350º for 30 - 35 min.

Icing
Cream butter, Crisco, sugar and then add flour 1 spoon at a time.
Add milk and flavoring. Beat in mixer a long time.
