1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
3/4 cup quick-cooking rolled oats

Directions:
Directions:
Stir together flour, baking soda, ginger, salt and cloves. In mixer bowl, beat shortening on medium speed of mixer for 30 seconds. Add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture and beat until well blended. Stir in oats.

Using a rounded teaspoon for each, shape into balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375º for about 10 minutes. Cool for one minute,then remove to wire rack.
