1/2 C butter
1 1/2 C sugar
3 Eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 C (1 No. 2 can) sauerkraut
1 tsp soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 C cocoa
1 C water
1 C nuts (optional)

Frosting:
1 (6 oz) Pkg chocolate chips
4 T butter
1/2 C sour cream
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
Powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse sauerkraut thoroughly and cut into small pieces. Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, soda and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beating after each addition. Stir in sauerkraut and nuts. Bake in greased 9x12-inch pan at 350º for 40-45 minutes. Cool in pan.

For Frosting: Mix chocolate chips and butter over low heat. Blend in sour cream, vanilla and salt. Gradually add powdered sugar to make spreading consistency. Beat well and frost cake.
