COOKIES
½ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
¾ cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1¾ cups sifted flour
½ tsp. soda
½ tsp. salt
8 tbsp. cocoa powder

4 TBSP. milk
1 cup powdered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
COOKIES: Cream together shortening, sugar, and egg. Stir in milk and vanilla. Mix dry ingredients together and add to wet ingredients.
Chill dough at least one hour. Drop by rounded teaspoons full 2 inches apart on lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake at 375° 9 to 11 minutes or when touched lightly almost no imprint remains. Frost cooled cookies with brown sugar and butter glaze.
FROSTING: Combine butter, brown sugar, and milk in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and then boil for 2 minutes, stirring frequently (be sure to not let it boil over). Remove from heat, and let mixture cool off. While the mixture is still slightly warm, add the powdered sugar and wisk vigorously until no lumps remain. Drizzle over chocolate cookies.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Wow! For some reason, I hadn’t ever made these before. When I was typing up the recipe, I had such fond memories of them that I had to go make a batch. They are as delicious as I remembered them. Make sure they are baked well enough, if not they fall when you take them out of the oven. They are cake-like.
