1/2 c. shortening
1 c. butter, softened
3 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Topping ingredients:
1 1/4 c. sifted powdered sugar
3 tbsp. cocoa powder
1/4 c. butter, softened
3 to 4 tbsp. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In a large bowl, cream shortening and butter. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well after each one. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa, mix well. Add dry ingredient mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry mixture. Stir in vanilla. Pour into a large (10") greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350º for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a wooden pick comes out clean. Cool in pan inverted on a plate for 10 to 15 minutes. Topping directions: Whisk sifted powdered sugar, cocoa, softened butter and milk together well. Drizzle over cooled cake.
