1 1/2 c. Sugar
2/3 c. Hershey's Cocoa
1 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 c. Shortening
1 1/2 c. Buttermilk
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs

Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour two 8"round layer pans or one 13x9 pan.
In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. Blend on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping sides and bottom of bowl. Beat 3 minutes on medium scraping bowl frequently. Pour into prepared pans. Bake layers 30-35 minutes, oblong 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Frost with Baker's Double Fudge Chocolate Frosting on page 199.
