1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. bread sponge
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. raisins (which have been standing in hot water)
2 well beaten eggs
1 level tsp. soda dissolved in 1/2 c. warm water

Directions:
Directions:
Stir together before adding flour & raisins will not settle. Use flour enough to thicken as any other cake. To flour add 1 level tsp. each of cocoa & cinnamon and 1 tsp. each of cloves, nutmeg and salt. Put in pan and let raise four or five hrs. Needs no frosting. Can be added if wished.
