3/4 lb hot or mild Italian sausage, casing removed
4 cups chopped kale leaves, lightly packed
28 oz can of diced tomatoes with juice
19 oz can of black eyed peas (or navy beans) with liquid
1/4 cup basil pesto

Directions:
Directions:
Scramble fry sausage meat in large frying pan on medium for about 10 minutes until no longer pink. Drain. Transfer to 4 to 5 L slow cooker.
Add next three ingredients and 4 cups water. Stir. Cook, covered, on low for 9 to 10 hours or on high for half the time. Break up mixture with potato masher.
Add pesto. Stir. Makes about 9 cups.
