2 cups unsifted flour
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 cups apples, finely chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off.
Combine flour, brown sugar and butter in a large bowl. Blend at a low speed until crumbs form. Stir in nuts.
Firmly press 2 3/4 cup of this mixture into a ungreased 13 x 9 inch pan.
Combine the remaining crumb mixture with the remaining ingredients. Place in pan on top of crumb mixture.
Bake a 350º for 30 to 40 minutes. Test for doneness, make sure mixture is not too moist.
Cool completely and cut into squares.
