1 lb. bacon
12 potatoes, peeled and diced
3 large cans clams (6 oz. whole or minced, your choice). You may want to strain the clams as sometimes the juice has the sand at the bottom of the can. Don’t throw the juice away though!
1 large sweet onion, peeled and diced
8 tbsp. real butter
4 qt. half and half
salt and pepper to taste
Baguette or hard crusty rolls

1) Put potatoes in large pot, cover with just enough water and cook till slightly firm, not mushy.
2) While cooking potatoes, soft fry bacon and onion in skillet, drain on newspaper/napkins/towels. Cut into half-inch pieces.
3) After potatoes are done, drain completely and return to pot on stove on medium low. Add: clams with juice, bacon with onions, half and half.
4) Float butter on top of soup and heat until butter is completely melted on top.
5) Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve with bread.
